New Member Press Release – PangeaSeed Foundation

International Alliance to Combat Ocean Acidification welcomes PangeaSeed as a new affiliate member, joining a team of partners working to increase ambition for climate action and transform response to climate-ocean change.

It’s with excitement and great pleasure we announce that PangeaSeed has joined the International Alliance to Combat Ocean Acidification (OA Alliance.)

The OA Alliance brings together governments and organizations from across the globe dedicated to taking urgent action to protect coastal communities and livelihoods from the threat of ocean acidification and climate-ocean change.

Affiliate members commit to elevating the issue of ocean acidification in keeping with their mission and capacity. Affiliate members engage as supporters of the Alliance and where possible, join events and programmes that help advance the Alliance goals.

“It’s an honor to have PangeaSeed join the OA Alliance. Affiliate members bring expertise and experience that help us close priority knowledge and information gaps that help communities respond to climate-ocean change.  Affiliate members also help us reach new audiences and actors, further advancing our shared goals.”

- Jessie Turner, Executive Director of the OA Alliance

By joining the OA Alliance, PangeaSeed will be advancing the following goals:

  • Expand awareness and understanding of ocean acidification.

  • Build sustained international support for tackling this global problem.

PangeaSeed is a Hawaiʻi-based and internationally engaged nonprofit that bridges marine science and art to increase ocean literacy and empathy. PangeaSeed seeks science partners, advisors, and connectors to help ground their arts-based work in sound research and conservation imperatives. Being part of the OA Alliance’s network enables them to collaborate with scientists, NGOs, governments, and institutes that want to amplify their work in the OA space through the power of visual communication. They are keen on expanding their community of blue people and learn more about the work being done in the OA space globally.

"Our mission at PangeaSeed is to bridge art and science to increase ocean literacy and empathy. We believe art is a powerful and underutilized conservation tool."

- Akira Biondo, Director of Operations, PangeaSeed.

The OA Alliance and its network of members actively engages across the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda (particularly under SDGs 13 and 14) and is supporting the development of OA information through the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainability.
