Input to UNFCCC Ocean Climate Change Dialogue

Building upon the momentum calling for actions to integrate ocean across the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the OA Alliance has made a formal submission to the upcoming UNFCCC Ocean and Climate Dialogue which is scheduled to take place in June 2022.

Our input, “Advancing Enabling Conditions for Ocean & Coastal Adaptation" calls for increased climate financing to support OA measures and is endorsed by Friends of Ocean Action and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme.

The first ever UNFCCC Ocean and Climate Change Dialogue was mandated at COP 25 (2019) and held online 2-3 December 2020. The Dialogue drew upon knowledge and scientific findings from the IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC) and invited Parties and non-Party stakeholders to discuss priorities for strengthening adaptation and mitigation action on ocean and climate change.

The COP26 decision, as documented in the Glasgow Climate Pact, instructed the Chair of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) to hold an annual ocean and climate change dialogue, starting SBSTA-56 in June 2022. Learn more about ocean at UNFCCC here.
